The Internet is impermanent in all the wrong ways, and much of it is already long gone.

We have the tools to create perfect copies of digital media, but someone has to take the first step for that image, song, video, or Web site. And it has to be individuals doing this too—there's no guarantee your favorite archive site will be around in the future, and the companies that host the mainstream Web stop caring the moment there's no money in it.

Cool preservation tools:

HTTrack: Download full Web sites and read them offline. Incredibly powerful and well-documented.
ArchiveWeb.page: Download Web sites as you browse them. Easier to use than HTTrack and saves a WACZ or WARC archive file for use with tools like ReplayWeb.page.
yt-dlp: Download videos from almost any Web site, not just YouTube. Tons of configuration options, but the only one you really need to know is -x for audio-only.
